Kapok fibres from the fruits of the huge kapok trees are said to be the most lightweight from all natural fibres. They are hollow and water-repellent, even buoyant, and have insulating properties. The ripe pods are collected, their hard shells opened and the fibres inside removed to be cleaned and dried – without any chemical treatment.
